Are you okay?

Are you okay?
With the deafening silence,
The lie of our subtle presence
Uncharted waters we cannot calm,
Nervousness and sweaty palms.
Love left untitled like a poem
But feelings that felt like home.
A story we’re both too scared to write
Even in the youth of the night.
We know it’s more than company
Our heartbeats seem uncanny.
Fear of commitment prevailed,
Over assurance that each should stay.
The air never felt this heavy
Out of unsaid thoughts it has to carry.
Will we not seek a name for the feeling
After all, isn’t it forever we’re wishing?
We’re too tense to be just friends
But too scared to lead to a tragic end
There’s more between us two
But I only had the strength to ask you,
“Are you okay?”
